Mikhailovsky temple

The temple of Transfiguration of the God was constructed at the Mikhailovsky cemetery of Yashtukha village, Sukhumy District, in the second half of the nineteenth century and subject to the Sukhumy Abkhazian Diocese.

The temple presents a type of the Slavonian ecclesiastic architecture erected by faithful and pious hermits of Abkhazia. This temple is located within the Sukhumy city cemetery where along with its former residents some clergymen and monks of the Sukhumy Abkhazian Diocese have been buried. It should be noted such abovesaid persons as Seraphim (Romanov), the archimandrite and one of the latest elders of the famous Glinsky retreat and Paissius, the schemonk. The chapel is to be constructed supposedly above the tomb of the latter person.

The church services are rendered regularly in this functional temple.
